Choose from versatile variants and scopes designed for the rifles of specific calibers, such as .308 Winchester or .22-LR.
Not sure what type of rifle scope you need? Whether your goal is short-range small game hunting or long-range competitive shooting, our customer service team will help you find the perfect solution for the best price!
Rifle Scopes FAQs:
1. What is the difference between fixed and variable power rifle scopes?
As the name suggests, fixed power rifle scopes have a fixed magnification power, such as 4x zoom or 6x zoom. This means that you will only be able to shoot accurately from up to a certain distance using your scope.
Variable power rifle scopes allow you to change their magnification power in a certain range, such as 1x-8x. This comes in handy if you frequently use your scope in different conditions and over different distances.
2. What magnifying power do I need in my rifle scope?
The magnifying power of your rifle scope should depend on the scenario in which you’ll be using it. Typically, the following magnifying powers work best in the following scenarios:
- 1x-4x zoom: target shooting at up to 100 yards, small game hunting, self-defense
- 4x-8x zoom: target shooting at up to 200 yards, big game hunting in closed landscapes (forests, mountains, etc.)
- 8x-12x zoom: target shooting at 200 yards or more, big game hunting in open landscapes (fields, prairies, deserts, etc.)
3. What should be the objective diameter of my rifle scope?
The objective diameter of your scope will have a direct correlation to its magnifying power — the larger the diameter, the more powerful the scope will typically be.
However, it will also depend on other factors, such as the caliber of your firearm and the light conditions. Here are the common scope objective diameters and the scenarios they are appropriate for:
- Up to 28mm: Close-range target shooting or hunting with a low-recoil rifle
- 28mm-44mm: Low-light target shooting or hunting with a medium-recoil rifle
- 44mm and more: Extremely long-range target shooting or hunting with a high-caliber rifle
4. What is the difference between first focal plane and second focal plane rifle scopes?
The focal plane of a scope has to do with how the scope’s reticle — the lines and markings inside the scope — appear at different magnification levels. As such, this difference is only relevant for variable power rifle scopes.
In first focal plane (FFP) scopes, the reticle will enlarge as you increase the scope’s magnification. This will make it easier for you to focus on your target at long ranges, but might become too distracting at shorter ranges. FFP scopes are ideal for long-range shooting in open environments that require a magnification power of at least 10x.
By comparison, in second focal plane scopes (SFP), the reticle is fixed and will appear the same regardless of the magnification. As a result, SFP scopes perform better over shorter ranges and in busier environments, such as forests.
5. How much do rifle scopes cost?
The price of a rifle scope depends on a variety of factors: the magnification power, the focal plane type, the diameter, the manufacturer, and so on. A scope for your rifle can cost anywhere between $50 and $5,000.
