Reviews
PMC X-Tac Match Rifle Ammunition 5.56 NATO 62 gr Green Tip 1000/ct is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 62g 5.56NATO HPSCBT: Great Ammo/Reloadable Brass I've shot at least 5000 rnds of this offering out of my 1:9 20" AR for fun, friends 1st time shooting an AR, fundy's practice at 100, 200 yds and I never think about, much less worry about it's reliability. Function flawlessly in 5.56 NATO chambered barrels. I used to get them sub $300/1000 and shoot 200-300 rounds ea. session. So, I had some cleaning to do post session anyway. I can't say this ammo is any more/less 'dirty' than avg. commercial ammo. My MV is consistently between 3000-3100 fps. so making adjustments at 100/200 yds was minimal on typical days weather. The best part of this ammo, imo, is the hearty 5.56 brass case. I use it in my hot-end mid-range hand loads (500/600 yds). 1 CON: The primer pockets ARE CRIMPED so a primer-pocket swager is required during the first case prep. But they snap back great in my chamber and only have to bump the shlders and trim to length every 4-5 firings mostly to square them up. These come from the factory annealed so I've never had a neck split, yet. (knock knock) I'm still using cases from my original lots with the head-stamps mostly worn and illegible. I can't recommend these enough for their purpose and they're economical especially for reloaders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality I've shot a few mags of this and used it to sight in my scope- I believe this is accurate, feeds well and no duds- that's why I've bought more

Rated 5 out of 5 by from QUALITY AMMO I have 2 older AR-15s that I put together myself, both are over 40 years old. My 1st AR is a CAR model, a 10-1/2" hbar with a 5-1/2" flash suppressor soldered on for legality and the 2nd is a A2 stock with a 20" hbar. Both shot the ammo flawlessly with no misfires. The shorty is sighted in at 50 yards and the full stock at 75 yards. The shorty does have wild placements from time to time with all ammo due to the short barrel but the Xtac grouped well out to 100 yards, this rifle is mainly for up close hunting, generally no more than 75 yards and I shoot dead on at everything. The 20" hbar holds excellent patterns out to 200 yards and can group with in 1" - 1-1/4" on calm days. The 62 grain really holds tight patterns in the longer barrel and I am confidemt in shooting game out to the 200 yard mark. I will target shoot out to 300 yards but never that far on game. One of the best buys on ammo I have got in a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PMC 5.56 I haven't found anything that cannot be properly cycled as of yet, but I don't have all of it sorted yet. I run it through Bushmasters and Anderson with no issues. I've never had any issues with PMC across the board. While it is not on par with some of the high end ammo (critical defense), it does get the job done, minus some of the flair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PMC Green Tip 62 grain X-Tac 5.56 x 45 ammo Believe it to be important to be prepared.... Have purchased a variety of this caliber ammo, intend to determine what works best in my firearms. I like to keep 'price per round close to or below $.35/ round average' and reload able.

Are these similar to Lake City XM855 armor piercing?

Asked by: Lilmarty
Yes. Identical specs under NATO. Note they are designated 'LAP' (light armor piercing) Although that doesn't include modern tactical armor plates and hard targets, a steel plate (barrier, door, dumpster, etc. and even a kevlar helmet) would most likely be easily defeated at ranges up to 200 yds. YouTube is frock with "M855 vs." tests if you can't do your own. HTH...

Does this ammunition have a steel core? Just having a green tip does not confirm this.

Asked by: mike13
Yes. It's steel, not tungsten. Some versions of these bullets do not have green tips (the XTAC 62gr does) The hardened steel core penetrator is large enough that you can easily test them with a magnet if you want to be 100% sure. These are designated 'LAP' (light armor piercing) I believe the spec is to penetrate a Kevlar helmet at up to 200yds. I've shot them through 1/4inch hardened steel plates at 200yds and they punch a clean hole. However, high standard class armor plating in vest rigs are rated to defeat LAP M855...but 2-3+ hits in the same general area should defeat most plates that aren't classified or R&D type body plates. I digress. When in doubt, break the magnet out.. ;-) Save your brass!
